Within mere days of the end of the 2018-2019 NHL regular season, the Florida Panthers have improved their team dramatically. With the acquisition of Joel Quenneville they have retained the services of the best active coach in the NHL.
Since becoming a head coach, Quenneville has assembled a record of 890-532-77 making him the second winning-est coach in league history. He has also accumulated 3 Stanley Cup winning runs and has a history of developing young players to their full potential as he did with Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. Most remarkably, he managed to coach the team to three cups even while losing key players every year to an ongoing salary cap crunch.
Quenneville employs a strong defensive system but also encourages creativity and offense which is a great sign for whoever is guarding the goal next year.
For those who enjoy fantasy hockey, now is the time to try to acquire some undervalued defense assets such as Aaron Ekblad and Mike Matheson and up front Mike Hoffman and Vincent Trochek.
