It was a costly Friday night for the Anaheim Ducks. In the first period Cam Fowler went down awkwardly and needed to be helped off the ice.
The Ducks are currently calling it a lower body injury. Judging from both the way Fowler’s right leg twisted and his inablity to place any weight on it it would appear to be a right knee injury.
Fowler is an integral part of the Ducks team. He is a huge minute eater who contributes at both ends of the ice.
If he is out for four to six weeks, as was speculated by Nick Kypreos, then it will be a difficult, but not devastating, loss for the Ducks. However, it will be a crippling blow to their cup chances if he was out for the season with an ACL injury.
A Possible Silver Lining
The loss of Fowler for any length of time would have been a complete disaster for the Ducks as they are already without Sami Vatanen and Hampus Lindholm to start the season but both look close to returning.
While it will take both of them some time to get up to game speed, their return could be a season saver for the venerable Ducks who’s window to win could be closing fast.
