Every year we see it happen. High end prospects show they are not ready for the Big Show just yet and get sent down for future development and fantasy owners let out a heavy moan as they start labeling their best young players “BUSTS” far too early. And this is the time to strike for the astute fantasy owner.
When players get sent down, particularly if it happens 2 or 3 years in a row, owners start to look at how they can dump their busts off on other people. This is where good research and a steady hand will pay if in huge dividends within a year or two.
With the large number of recently drafted players not just making the NHL, but making a huge impact, the time has never been better to start trading your aging vets aka “immediate help” for players who will be difference makers sooner rather than later. Players you will be treasuring long after the aged assets are being dropped.
Here are the top 4 players you should be pursuing
Why has he been demoted – Slower foot speed and problems with decision making at the NHL level.
Why acquire him – Elite skill level combined with extra development in junior and the AHL will result in Dylan realizing his potential in the next 2 or 3 years. If Arizona ever gets their act together as a franchise and with the other players around him, expect Strome to achieve a point per game average for most of his prime years in the league.
Why has he been demoted – After being shuffled through the line up and having his ice time fluctuate from 9 minutes to as high as 20 minutes a game, he was sent down from a lack of production and questions about his 200 foot game.
Why acquire him – Puljujarvi is the perfect storm if you can acquire him. He has size, skating, skill and opportunity unlike any other prospects not named Kailer Yamamoto. On any other team you could expect career numbers in 65-70 points per game range. With McDavid he could easily see 90 points and if he winds up on the 2nd line with Draisaitl you could easily see him achieve 80 year in and year out.
Why has he been demoted – A combination of not quite NHL ready defense and the inexplicable over abundance of middle of the road defensemen that George McPhee drafted in the expansion.
Why acquire him – Now is your last chance. It may already be too late but just in case he is available you should be eager to get him for his pure scoring abilities. Much like PP quarterbacks playing today such as Kevin Shattenkirk, Theodore is never going to wow anyone with his defensive capabilities. What he will do is score an abundance of PP goals and points and reward you for the next ten years for believing in him.
Why has he been demoted – Depth on the right side and slowed development from a terrible shoulder injury 2 years .
Why acquire him – Sprong is an outstanding skater with speed and skill. If he had not suffered the shouder injury he would already be an NHL staple in the Pittsburgh line up. Expect to see him later this year as an emergency call up and full time next year. With his goal scorer’s mentality you can reasonably expect him to be producing in the yearly range of 35 goals and 35 assists in the NHL
